Let’s Get Acquainted Monday Link-Up: Single Girl Quilt

24 Feb

When Beth at Plum and June asked if I would host a Monday link-up, I jumped at the chance.  I met so many great bloggers through her “Let’s Get Acquainted Blog Hop” and Beth always posts the most beautiful and fun projects that I wish I had thought up myself!

If you are visiting my blog for the first time, Welcome!  I’m Janice and I am a costume designer turned obsessive modern quilter.  Take a tour of my blog and check out my finished quilts and projects and my tutorials.  Be sure to stop back on Tuesdays for my “Sew Cute Tuesday” sewing link-up.

I am also pleased to say that I just published my very first Craftsy Pattern and it’s free for the next month, so be sure to check it out!

Today, I’m going to share with you one of my long-time WIPs.  I  started this Denyse Schmidt Single Girl Quilt 2 years ago, just before my daughter was born.  Once I found myself busy all day (crazed, is more like it) with 2 under 2, I stashed it in a drawer and there it sat.  In 2013, I’m trying to finish all my WIPs before starting any new projects, so I finished the top this past week.

I am so excited with how it’s turning out.  The original background was going to be all natural linen, but I was bored with the thought of finishing it.  I have REALLY been wanting to make a low-volume/text quilt and since I’m not allowed to start anything new, I thought that this could be my chance. I was inspired by my friend, Alison’s, Liberated Wedding Ring Quilt.  It was one of the first blocks I ever worked on for a sewing bee and I loved that she mixed various shades of white for her background fabrics.  The result is beautiful.

Don’t ask me how I’m going to quilt it, because I don’t know yet.  Suggestions are welcome!

Congrats on publishing your first pattern! You already know how much I love that mini quilt you made with it – I’m going to download it after I finish writing this comment. And I also love that quilt top – I really like the scrappy circles paired with the scrappy neutral background! Thanks for hosting the link up!

ohh giving quiting advice is a joy …
well STD aroudn the circle thingies and then compass flowers in the middle
and that area where 4 blocks meet, taht looks a bit like a square with dented in sides, use that shape but so thath the corners tip point towards the rings, and don’t follow the space …
    (hope that makes sense)

I love your Single Girl quilt! I’m a little bit jealous of your Katie Jump Rope, though. 🙂 It looks fantastic on your low-volume background picks. Thank you so much for hosting this week’s link-up.

Hi, I believe your web site could possibly be having internet browser compatibility issues.

When I look at your web site in Safari, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping issues.
I just wanted to give you a quick heads up!
    Apart from that, great website!

I love the simplicity of this pattern. There was definitely a gap in quilting when my kids were little, but not for long.

His prequels did establish how these events played out,
but have universally panned as failures. Requirement for this game in pc
is direct x or navidia g force,4gb ram, keyboard, mouse or joystick, high resolution vga card, audio system and dvd rom.

And yeah, yeah, I know that my quotes are a little off, but I’m doing this from memory.
