Spring Bouquet Wall Quilt

10 Apr

Here is a fun, somewhat insane, project I finished recently.  I decided I wanted to scale down my Spring Bouquet quilt and make it wall-sized.  The original quilt is 84″ x 84″ and the blocks are 9″ square.  The scaled down version measures 29″ x 29″ and has 69 blocks measuring 3″ x 3″ finished.

It was a fun way to use lots of little scraps and challenge myself to work small. The results are so cute and it looks so happy on my wall.

If you want to make the Spring Bouquet Mini yourself, you just need to do a bit of math!

– First, print any templates at 33%.

– Next, subtract the 1/2″ seam allowance from the cutting measurements, divide by 3 and then add the 1/2″ back on.

Whew!  I’ll give an example:

(On the original pattern) Fabric C: Cut 16 squares 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″.

(On the mini pattern) Fabric C: Cut 16 squares 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″.

To get this measurement, you subtract the seam allowance from 3 1/2″, then divide by 3 and then add 1/2″.

3 1/2 – 1/2= 3.

3 divided by 3 = 1

1 + 1/2 = 1 1/2″

-Lastly, Don’t try to piece the curves.  That’s just crazy!  To make a teeny tiny drunkards path, I cut two curve pieces, placed them right sides together and sewed only along the curve.  Flip right side out and press, then I appliquéd it onto a 1-1/2″ background square, aligning the raw edges.  So much easier and no swearing or wine needed.

If there is enough interest in the pattern, I can add it to my shop and do all the math for you. Let me know!

Now that you mention it, it does sound a little crazy pants. But it’s so beautiful it’s worth it, now that it’s done.

Yes, please!!! I would love to have a mini pattern. It is a great way to use up scraps and it gets done a lot quicker.

I’ll not deny the craziness; however, it is most certainly beautiful.

Would love to try this in a smaller size! I don’t like to do large quilts.

I LOVE this quilt! I’d certainly need you to do the math, as I have dyscalculia, and this would be headache-inducing on my own to figure out. 🙂
