Spring Bloom Makers Blog Hop and Giveaway

29 Apr

Spring Bloom Blog Hop, Spring Bloom By Bella Caronia for Windham Fabrics

It’s my day in the Spring Bloom Makers Blog hop and I’m so excited to reveal the quilt I have been working on!  Bella Caronia’s Spring Bloom is Amanda Caronia’s first fabric line with Windham Fabrics and it is lovely.

I met Amanda at an LAMQG meeting and we instantly bonded over being California transplants and former 705 Costumers (that’s the local union for TV and movie costumers).  I was really excited when she asked if I would design a quilt for her new fabric line.

I love Spring Bloom’s variety of colors and floral designs, and I wanted to design a quilt that represented a bouquet of flowers, or an aerial view of a French Formal Garden.

Spring Bouquet Quilt by Better Off Thread featuring Spring Bloom Fabric by Bella Caronia.

“Spring Bouquet” measures 84″ x 84″ and is a sampler in the round.  I had a lot of fun choosing blocks and laying them out to best show off these gorgeous fabrics.

It’s hard to see scale in a cropped photo, so here is a behind the scenes shot for size reference.

It fits very nicely on my queen-sized bed (yes, I STILL need to paint the other nightstand…quilts come first!).

I will be releasing the pattern for Spring Bouquet next month, so please check back for details!  I’m thinking it may be fun to have a quilt-along: 12 different blocks over 12 weeks (4-8 blocks per week).

I love Peonies, too, especially the pink ones. I like Lilacs and miss them as we don’t have them in southern CA but we do have the Jacaranda which is an intense bloom of deep lavender. I love how the quilt looks on the bed.

I love daffodils, especially little miniatures, red capped doffodils, and any scented ones. I keep trying to naturalise them, but we keep having droughts (don’t you just love climate change), and the bulbs don’t seem to last. That, and my silt loam overtop of gravel soil doesn’t help. Maybe I need to shift regions, or countries….all for the love of daffodils.

I really like peonies too! I have transplanted the peonies from my childhood home to my new home and they are adapting well to their new abode. I figure they are close to 100 years old, so they carry a lot of meaning. My favorite flower is the Hydrangea which I grow in my yard too. I like to snip them at the end of the season and allow them to dry out so I can adore them all winter.

I fell in love with this quilt pattern instantly–I do hope you develop a pattern for it soon as I’d like to make it. My favorite flower is also the peony. I bought my first on about 12 years ago and have since divided them and have about 60 of my own plants and have given 12 plants to family and friends. They are in full bloom right now so I have really giant bouquets in every room in my house. Thank you for the giveaway and I wish me luck to win the fat quarter bundle. janicelashley@gmail.com

What a gorgeous quilt! Beautiful! I love quilts with white backgrounds! As for my favorite flower…I would need to say orchids! Something that absolutely does not grow wild here in Alberta, but certainly something I do appreciate when I do get them. Unique… just like your quilt! Thanks for the giveaway! What a pretty quilt. We have two peonies in our garden – a red one and a pale pink. The red flowers first and there are a max of three flowers but the pink is just a big show off. I love them but my favourite favourites are sunflowers.
