Have you heard of The Bitchy Stitcher? No, I’m not name-calling, I’m referring to Megan Dougherty. She’s a quilter, comedienne and all around kick-a** lady. Oh, and her quilts are pretty darn amazing. Anyone who designed these pins is pretty dang cool in my book:
Megan writes humorous and brutally honest essays for Quilter’s Home and Generation Q and she has collected her essays into a self-published book. So grab your mug rug and latte, snuggle up under your favorite quilt, and have a good laugh. Her essay on “Quilting With Kids” was like a sticky finger-marked mirror into my life.
I am so glad that Megan asked me to be part of this tour because I haven’t been taking enough time for myself and work has been somewhat overwhelming. I really needed to be reminded of the humor in quilting right now.

“Quilt as desired” – who ever gets the quilting to turn out as desired? (I guess this could apply to both funny and annoying! do I win?!)

Anything labeled easy. even if it should be easy to make or sew, it usually isn’t.
I would have to say “Quilt as desired”, also. If I didn’t tell myself how funny/absurd that phrase is I would be writing nasty-grams to the publishers every time I came across it!!! I would LOVE that book!!!!! Awesome post and thanks for the opportunity to……win???? Hugs………….

The terms BOM, WIP, are some of the ones I like.
“Quilt in a Day”. Really? Plan, cut, measure, recut, sew, rip, sew, and press. Then, get down on the floor and baste. Then go downstairs and put a heating pad on my back for awhile. Then quilt. All in one day? I don’t think so.
As a child of the 70’s, the word STASH gives me the giggles. I keep thinking I should pry up a floorboard and hide my fabric under the rug in the livingroom. Maybe then my hubby wouldn’t find it and roll his eyes…

I would have to say UFO, WIP and PHD are the ones that crack me up. Better get those WIPS all whipped into shape. lol Would love to win this book. Could really use some light reading.:)
I agree with the others that I hate to read Quilt as Desired. Really? How about some suggestions or ideas. To me the phrase Quilt Police is annoying. You really only need to please yourself- unless you are into the show circuit, then I guess you need to please the judges too but hey- I wouldn’t know anything about that.

BOM always catches me off guard as it is also used in my work meaning ‘bill of material’
Quilt as desired – You follow all the directions, get your preety top, then they leave you hanging. No clue what design to quilt, no suggestions, nothing.
STASH has got to be the word that makes me laugh everytime. I had a friend come over and I said let me show you my “stash”… She looked real surprised and then of course I busted out laughing and said “Fabric Stash”….

Sounds like such a fun book! My funny quilting term is from Eleanor Burns. Her “Still Stripping” books just crack me up. Did no one in the editing process have a dirty mind or realize what that would sound like?!
I used to get the terms “presser foot” and “foot pedal” confused.
The punny use of the word “sew”. I’m sew excited. That’s sew funny. Ugh. I’d love to read this book!!
For some reason Fussy Cut rubs me the wrong way, lol. No real reason, it just sounds unpleasant.
It’s gotta be STASH for me, being a 60’s flower child and a 70’s back-to-the-lander!!

I think lots of quilting terms are funny, hst, qal, flying geese, sashing but I think my favorite is stippling?!? isn’t that something to do with paint? thanks
At my LQS yesterday we came up with a new one. Someone was discussing PHDs ie Projects Half Done and then we talked about where we store our projects in waiting. One other lady and I use ziploc bags so we came up with PIZs ie Projects in Ziplocs.
Scant quarter inch is one of the frustrating terms for me. Scant is slight, limited, negligble, little, scarce, inadequate, insufficient, meager or measly which make it sound like something bad. As another 60’s flower child, I think I will go to my sewing room and play with my stash and hope that the quilting police won’t find me.
