Kite Flight Quilt Along

31 Jul

PicMonkey Collage

Today is the beginning of the Kite Flight Quilt Along at Robert Kaufman Fabrics! Be sure to check out my guest post today on their blog, Swatch & Stitch.  My new Kite Flight Quilt Pattern is available as a free download from their site (I’ll update once I have the link), and various bloggers will be sewing along with the  fantastic new Skinny Strips which Robert Kaufman will be releasing soon.

Are you now wondering what exactly a skinny strip is?

They are like a Roll-up, but instead of 2.5″ strips, the strips are 1.5″ wide!

I made this entire rainbow Kite Flight Quilt out of them:

And I whipped up this baby quilt the other day with Superhero fabric and white skinny strips (I don’t think the mom-to-be sees my blog, so I think I’m safe to show it!):

So, on to the quilt-along!

My Kite Flight Quilt pattern has two variations.  You can use 1.5″ Skinny Strips, and a pattern is coming soon which uses 2.5″ roll-ups.  As I said, I made the prism quilt with one white and one Kona Classic Skinny Strip set.  I also made this neutral version from one Kona Neutrals Roll-up and yardage of Kona Bluegrass (one of their new colors):

(Yes, it will be quilted soon!)

This time, I am making a quilt for me to keep and I’ve decided to use a Kona White Roll-up, a Kona Classic Roll-up, Extra-wide Spot on for the back, and I am also throwing in some text print fabrics and a few other Kona colors.

Can you tell me how much fabric you used for the superhero quilt? I would like to make one similar and am unsure what exactly to order. Thanks!

Hi, Please could you tell me where I can find the fabrics for the kite flight quilt in bright colours, the red one. I would need international shipping as I am not in USA.
    many thanks
