WIP Wednesday: Scrappy Hexy Quilt

16 Jan

I’ve been working on a few items that I can’t show just yet, but I CAN show my Scrappy Hexy Quilt progress.  I recently watched every single episode of Downton Abbey for the first time, and it felt very fitting to do some hand-sewing at the same time.

Hexagon paper-pieced Quilt

After hours of deliberation, I settled on a subtle diagonal stripe layout.  2 rows of color and 1 row of neutrals on a diagonal repeat.  Now that I took a photo, I can see that I have some ducks in the wrong row!

I’m really happy with the addition of the neutrals. The eyes now have somewhere to rest.  It is a busy, busy quilt!

I think my favorite part is my hexy caddie. I love seeing all those rows of neat little hexagons.  The quilt will be made up of 598 1.5″ hexys, so I still have lots to make.  I’d love to see this quilt done by June, but I think that is probably a pipe dream.

598!! Oh my! I recently ordered precut Hexies, but I plan on machine sewing them – but they are bigger than yours. I feel like I am cheating though. Good for you! Janelle

I LOVE your hexie quilt! 🙂 I’ve been working on basting hexies but i’m scared to pick a layout until I have them all in front of me. I can’t wait to see how yours continues to grow!

Love the hexie caddy! How handy is that? Your hexie quilt is looking great – it is a labour of love but it is looking well worth it! x

So many hexies! I learned to make them last week and I love them, I don’t know if I could make that many though. Your quilt looks great so far!

I love your hexie creations. Many, many years ago the first quilt I made was the Grandmother’s flower quilt with lots and lots of hexies.

I read this paragraph completely on the topic of the comparison of most
recent and preceding technologies, it’s amazing article.
