Bee Block Round-up

3 Aug

If you have ever contemplated joining a quilting bee and weren’t sure…just do it!  I love being challenged each month with a new block and because it’s for someone  other than myself, I put extra effort into each one.

If you are looking to join a quilting bee, you can either check out your local Modern Quilt Guild or check out Quilting Bee Blocks on Flickr. QBB has a running discussion of open quilting bees.  At one point I was in three bees, but I am limiting myself to only one now, since most of my day is caring for my little ones.

Oh, I didn’t explain what a quilting bee is?  No, it isn’t a group of ladies sitting around a fire sewing and gossiping, though that would be really cool if wine were also included.  Normally there are 12 Bee members.  Each member is assigned a month and on their month they choose a quilt block (or 2) that each member will make and mail back.  The idea is to have enough blocks to make a quilt and to have the opportunity to try new techniques each month.

Now, without further ado, I present to you my year in Bee Blocks.

(Click on photos if you want to see them larger.  For more info, check out my Flickr Set: Bee Blocks.)

I joined my first Bee this year and having been loving it too. Great way to be exposed to new ideas, methods, colour combos etc. Fun! You’ve made some gorgeous blocks. Particularly love the Mod Mosaic. Thanks for linking up to TGIFF. 🙂

Wow!! That’s a lot of blocks. A lot of fun. And a lot of long-distance companionship! 😀 I’m definitely going to have to do a bee year when I’ve finished getting my backlog of work to a manageable state.
