Did I ever tell you that I am in the SWEETEST, MOST AWESOME quilting bee ever? (Uh, only like a million times, Janice.) One of our members, Yolanda, has been having some health issues, so we have been rallying together to help her finish her quilts.
We also made her a “Healing Quilt”.
Here is the main panel that Liberty created and had printed at Spoonflower:
I get the chills every time I read it. It’s so inspiring. Liberty had recently created this image and Yolanda had asked for a copy, so we thought it would be perfect to include in the quilt.
We each made 18″ mod mosaic blocks using grey, purple and aqua as our palette. Here’s my block:
Lori sashed, pieced and sandwiched this massive quilt together.
I love Lori’s idea of making all the quilting lines radiate out from the main panel.
The quilt came together with the help of SO many women. We wanted Yolanda to enjoy her quilt as quickly as possible, so a circle of ladies at the LAMQG went to work on hand-quilting it. I really wish I lived close enough to have contributed to such a wonderful display of sisterhood.
Many of these photos are courtesy of Liberty. Please check out her blog for more info on this healing quilt.

While they were working on the Healing Quilt in SoCal, I was busy up here in NoCal making a quilt for Yolanda’s beautiful niece, Piper. Yolanda sent me the biggest stash of Heather Ross “Mendocino” that I had ever been in the presence of (YUM!) along with Kona Sand. She asked for it all to be sewn up in Oh Frannson’s “New Wave” Quilt Pattern.
Do you ever wish you had a better photo of a quilt? I was WAY too excited to mail this quilt out to Yolanda, so this photo is all I have. Yolanda has such a gift for choosing color. Everytime Piper uses this quilt, she will dream of being at the ocean.
I free-motion quilted a wave motif onto the quilt to go with the ocean theme.
Thank you for allowing me to work on this quilt, Yolanda!

Both those quilts are gorgeous! I love the idea of sitting with friends and handquilting together, and the radiating lines suit the quilt so well. Thanks for joining in TGIFF 🙂

Both are super nice!
I would love to be a part of a quilting bee. I’m hoping to find an opening in one of the small quilt groups through out guild. I will have to ask them to announce that I would like to join a group if there is an opening.

I made 2 quilts for Yolanda’s nephews. I love your Mendo quilt! It had to be fun using all that HR fabric to make such a spectacular quilt. I really love the healing quilt too. Yolanda is going to be so touched. I like the color combo you guys chose and then hand quilted? Spectacular!
