Progress and Process

17 May

43 down, 57 to go!

I am really loving how this quilt is turning out.  This was the first time I laid the blocks out and saw them all together.  I am not sure if I’ll keep the Twiddletails “Geese in the Forest” layout, or just do my own.  I am thinking I may turn some of the blocks so that the geese face different directions.  I’ll post a few variations once all the blocks are done, and see what everyone thinks.

I really enjoy sewing with the vintage linens because:

A: they looks really beautiful together.

&

B: I am new to quilting and I can try new blocks and techniques for minimal cost.

Getting any time to sew (or blog) is really hard these days.  I generally sew a block or two during Liam’s tiny mini-naps that he takes.  I normally don’t sew in the evening, because my husband and I have only been married a year and a half and we still like hanging out together (ha!). I set my little card table up in the living room with my self-healing mat on top and I cut out the fabric for my next set of blocks.

I’m trying to find a balance and not stress so much about the end product, or having finished quilts to blog. To me, the joy of quilting is the process more than the outcome.  If I take 3 months to make a quilt, it doesn’t matter, because I savored and enjoyed creating each block. That’s much more rewarding than if I rush through just so I can move on to the next project.  It is a hard mind set to maintain, though, because there are SO many unmade quilts running through my head, begging to be made!

I save Bee Blocks for the weekends when I can take a couple hours and really concentrate on what I am doing.  JD spends special daddy time with Liam and I get some precious ALONE time!

On a lighter note, Liam finally used the Superman Blankie I made him.

That is so beautiful – I have to say I have that quilt on my mental list of 1001 quilts I want to make. How are the geese pieced? Are you OK to send out your June block stuff to international bee members a few days early in case they get slowed down by volcanic ash on their way here?! 🙂

oh my, this is breath-taking….definitely adding this one to my list of must-make-one-day quilts! I am relatively newly married, just over 2 years and feel the same way about my guy. Luckily my husband cycles like crazy, so when he rides, I sew 🙂

Love that quilt. Where do you pick up the sheets. I really want to do something with those too but dont even know where to start getting those.
Love the Liam super blanket! He is adorable. And I have been married for 7 years and my guy still gives me a hard time if I spend the nights in the sewing room. Lucky for me I am a SAHM at the moment so I have some time during the day.

Love your geese blocks – great fabrics! I am also a new mom who sews, and it is really hard to strike a balance. Some days I can’t find the time at all, and it is frustrating!

But speaking of sewing, have you found all the great links over at http://www.WeAllSew.com yet? Great links, and you can find other sewers/quilters on the web to see what they are stitching up!
