Vintage Bed Linen Quilt

23 May

Do you remember that stash of vintage bed linens that I purchased off Etsy awhile ago?

Well, I found the perfect project for them!  Oh Fransson was teaching a quilt along on her blog and I was inspired to make a scrappy version of the quilt she was demonstrating. This was only my second quilt (I will post photos soon of the baby quilt I am making) and I have to say that I ADORE quilting.  Elizabeth at Oh Fransson makes it so easy with her very clear and thorough instructions.  The love and knowledge she has for the craft really shows.

I normally make clothing and my least favorite part of the project is cutting out the fabric, but so far, it is my favorite part of quilting.  Something about sitting at my table with a rotary cutter and ruler is very Zen. I haven’t begun to free-motion quilt any of my projects yet, so we will see how that goes!

I am really happy with how the quilt has turned out so far:

I used a mix of vintage bed linens and some complementary modern fabrics.  Most of the vintage linens were from my Etsy purchase, but I did supplement with some thrift store finds.  Now I am addicted to going to thrift stores and searching for cute vintage linens and pillowcases. They are so cheap and they are wide, so they are great for backing quilts, also.   I will have to update with a photo of the back, once I take a photo. I think it’s yummy!

I think these are my favorite set of blocks:

You can see close-up photos of the the other blocks on my Flickr account here.

Gasp! So frickin cute. But what are you going to do w/ this quilt if you’re already making one for your baby?

This quilt is for ME. I thought it would be good to do something that wasn’t baby-centered, since it seems my life revolves around preparing for the baby right now.

That’s a FANTASTIC idea. I just finished a writing class, and I feel so more at peace about having to revolve around a baby for the next 6 months of breastfeeding, b/c I did something exclusively for myself right beforehand.
