This past week, I’ve been having fun working on a new paper-pieced star pattern. As of right now I’m calling it Kaleidoscope, but I am trying to think of a more unique name (any ideas??)
This is a 14″ x 14″ block I made from Kona Cottons. How could I NOT make a rainbow version??!
This one is also 14″, but made from fussy cut stripes. I believe those are Michael Miller Clown Stripes. I’d love to make an entire quilt of these blocks with a different colored stripe and matching polka dots for each block.
This is the start of an 18″ version of the same block. Do you think I included enough cats?
And because I am impatient, here is an illustration of what the finished block will look like. I love that the 18″block allows for fussy-cutting a variety of adorable prints.
I plan to include templates for a 14″, 18″ and 22″ block. The various sizes should work well for quilt blocks, mini quilts and center medallions.

Amazing! I love this pattern!

I’m loving the cat version. Wouldn’t it be great to do a quilt with different animals in each block?

That is a really lovely block, I like that you are making it in larger sizes, you could go mad with the fussy cutting in the 18″ block. It really does look like a Kaleidoscope, maybe a Fractured Kaleidoscope or a Harlequin Kaleidoscope.

This thing is absolutely gorgeous regardless of what you call it!!!

Janice!! I love the kaleidoscope block! The name is perfect since every time you move a kaleidoscope you get a different shape! In this case, you change the fabric and WOW, you get a completely different-looking block!!!
I really love it!!! Good job!!!

What a great block! One pattern but each block looks totally different. My favorite is the one with the cats.

Have you ever heard of the Dear Jane book? Brenda Papadoculis created blocks based on a Civil War quilt hanging in Vermont. Her blocks are only 4 inches square, and the borders are triangle blocks that looks a lot like this. Yours is unique of course but I love the idea.

Ohhh this is a fantastic pattern. I love the blue one. I am going to make my sister a pillow as a hostess gift for Thanksgiving. I would love to use this pattern if that is possible?

Cool block! Too bad there’s the classic kaleidoscope block already. Maybe Polychrome or prismatic?
Jeifner says
Teleidoscope, spectroscope?

I recently finished your Right Round pattern, which was crazy fun, and liked how the title alluded to an 80s song. Maybe you can tap another one for this pattern — Bizarre Love Triangle, Rock the Casbah? (I’m shooting from the hip here — there aren’t any songs with “octagon” or “kaleidoscope” in them!)

Love this block!! Many names have been presented that would work…this is a total gem of a block! You hooked me with the rainbow – simply gorgeous! Every block looks so different just because of the fabric choices! You are so incredibly creative!!

How about “Reflections?”

Great work! When/where can I get the pattern? I wanna make that tonight! Love it.
