Last month, I went to my first Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild meeting in 3 years and I jumped right in and joined the holiday potholder swap. My partner was Guild President, Latifah, and I stalked her flicker and saw that she loves bold solids. I searched high and low for the perfect inspiration and when I saw Alyssa’s Triangle Wheel Blocks over at Pile O Fabric, I knew that was THE design I needed for these potholders.
Here is Alyssa’s block:
I decided to make the center triangle smaller and sew 6 together.
I did the one on the right first and since the triangles weren’t meant to be sewn together the way I did, I really had to steam, starch and quilt it within and inch of it’s life. You can see that it’s a little curvy and warped. I fudged the seam allowance a tiny bit on the second one and it worked perfectly.
I seriously need an entire quilt made out of this block!
I made a pocket in the back and used some cute Sheri Berry Christmas fabric from my stash.
I also received the most adorable potholder from Liz! I will post a photo tomorrow, once I can get one in good lighting!

I love that block from Alyssa, I have already cleared much of my sewing to do’s so i can make some blocks this month, and you have made some gorgeous holders, i wouldn’t be able to bring myself to use them, they’re too beautiful!

These are so pretty! I kind of like the “fudged one” even more because it looks like jeweled rays.

I totally scored this swap! Thanks Janice! Can I say that they are more perfect in peron. And, nope, they will not be used! Eye candy only.
