Dr. Seuss “Let’s Party” Quilt

16 Nov

Dr Seuss Quilt, Robert Kaufman

Can you believe I actually got my 3 and 1.5 year-old to pose together for a quilt photo?  They were both very excited to look at their Dr. Seuss books under this quilt.  I quilted it this week for Robert Kaufman and it was pieced by the ever awesome Ramona.

Dr Seuss Quilt, Robert Kaufman

The pattern is called “Let’s Party”, by Heidi Pridemore, and the kids love all the characters and colors. I like how the framed boxes remind me of a comic strip.

I decided to do playful, loose swirls all over the quilt in a variety of sizes.  This will actually be the LAST quilt that my domestic Janome will ever see.  I’ll unveil my new machine when it arrives.  Don’t be sad for Janome, though.  I’m sure she’s dancing with joy because she doesn’t need to wrestle with giant quilts anymore.  I know I am a happy gal!

Alas, we had to send the quilt off to Robert Kaufman, but I have a feeling my kids will be getting their own very soon!

That’s a big quilt for a table top machine! Great job with those swirls. You must be incredibly excited for your new machine to arrive!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I have some Dr. Seuss that I’ve been wondering what to do with. Love the comic strip style. Fab quilting, Janice!

I’m not sad for the Janome. I am happy for you! Even so, you did a great job with the swirls on the Janome, but I imagine it will feel so good not to wrestle with the quilt anymore.

What a fun, playful quilt! Enjoy the new machine. I’m trying to figure out how you did the swirls, though. They are really great vibe with this quilt!

I love Seuss quilts! Isn’t that Celebrate Rainbow stripe perfect for binding? So glad both of your kids love it.

Beautiful quilt. A colleague at work would like me to make this quilt for her grandson.
Question: Did you hand sew or machine stitch the blanket stitch around the circles? And did you use a perle cotton thread or regular sewing thread?
    Thanks for your assistance.
