Fairy Tale Baby Quilt

12 Mar

I was so eager to own some Heather Ross “Far, Far Away” fabrics that I purchased them before I even knew I was having a girl.  I collected FQ’s of “Far, Far Away 1& 2”, added in a little Medocino, some Denyse Schmidt and a few coordinating Kona solids.

I decided to do wonky improv blocks and here is the top all sewn together!

I also made this quilt bigger than Liam’s quilt, so that the baby can use it longer.  I think Liam will be too big for his, by the time I put it in his bed! (Though it looks very nice hanging over it!)

Close-ups of each block:

Now I need to spend some quality time at my sewing machine quilting this puppy!

I love love love love love this quilt! Beautiful and wonderful, and so incredibly unique! I am new to quilting, and have only made a couple. When you were doing the piecing, is there a pattern for the “wonky improv blocks” or did you just make them up? If you made them up, did you sketch it out first, or just start sewing? I’m sure you can tell I’m super new to this, but I just love this quilt and would love to know how to attempt something similar myself. Also, you obviously get your fabric from somewhere other than Joann – do you order it? Where from? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just so inspired! 🙂
