While Liam napped, I had a chance to do my April blocks for “Bee Happy“. Leslie asked for wonky “square in square” log cabins and she gave us a selection of beautiful orange and grey fabrics to work from. I had never done a log cabin before, much less a wonky one, so I planned the first block out before proceeding. I think the hardest part was making it become a square at the end!
I just happened to have leftover scraps of the dark grey solid (is that Kona Coal?) and the Katie Jump Rope “Ribbon Flower” from Abi’s March block.
I had barely any fabric left for the second block, so I had to wing it out of necessity. I have to say, I actually had more fun doing the second block, because I was really making it up as I went along. I would love to make an entire quilt of wonky log cabins, even though they are quite labor intensive and take a lot of thought (and pressing!)

Great job! And I love that Japanese selvage in there!

These are really cute! It’s the prefect level of wonkiness!

Really your first log cabins?? They are so adorable – I love them! My favorite is the bit of snails against the coal on the outside piece of the first one. But I agree with the others – awesome selvage usage! Great color matching, too.

EEEeeeee I love these and so glad I got to be a part of your first log cabins. You are really great on them. I would never have thought to use the selvage and I love it. I can’t wait to get these back!
