I’ve never participated in a BOM before. In fact, a couple months ago, I didn’t know what BOM meant. It stands for Block of the Month. Each month, the BOM host introduces a new block and tutorial and at the end of the series you have enough blocks to make a quilt! It’s a great way to learn new techniques and since it’s only one block each month, it isn’t overwhelming.
For my first BOM, I’ve decided to participate in “And Sew On…” with Kristy at Quiet Play. Each block is paper-pieced and after 9 months I’ll have a cute, sewing-themed, wall hanging for my sewing room. I love Kristy’s paper-pieced patterns. I made this pillow for the Sew Seasonal Blog Hop using her Santa hat block design and I’ve been trying to convince her to do an 80’s themed series with this awesome polaroid camera block as the first design.
So here is my first block in the BOM. It’s called “Measure Twice”:
It’s a great starter block, if you have never tried paper-piecing before. It’s simple and quick to start and the blocks will get more complex each month. I decided to use my very favorite fabrics (Katie Jump Rope and Architextures) for this wall-hanging, since I’ll be looking at it for inspiration each day.
If you want to jump in and join the BOM, the details are here.
Ooh it looks great Janice! Great fabric choices and colours! Glad you had fun with this one and will be joining in the BoM!
I just love the colours you’ve used! Very pretty!
Since I love your block…. I am looking forward to what you will be making EVERY month!!
Love the pink ruler!!!
Susie
I might have to do this to satiate my paper piecing addiction…
Hi there lovely to meet you. It sounds like you are really enjoying the BOM, I have seen lots of Kirsty’s work and she is so talented! It’s going to be a fab quilt when it’s done! Love those fabrics too 🙂
Cute block-love those fabrics!
That turned out great! I especially love the pink tape measure fabric – too cute!
You are clever! Really cute block. I would love to join but I already signed up for three BOM and have never done one before either…
Great fabric choices in your block – and the pink tape measure is awesome!
Kristy showed your fabulous quilt block, which brought me to your fabulous blog. Where did you get the cute pink tape measure?
